A round-the-world-tour to the tropics without leaving Tenerife. The Palmetum is a 12-hectare botanical garden specialized in the palm tree family. It is a unique project in the world, which has transformed a garbage dump into a space for leisure and botanical culture, endowed with spectacular vegetation, the park is the result of numerous collaborations with institutions all around the world (Sydney, Havana, Miami, Santo Domingo, etc.) The Palmetum is the only landscaped mountain on the coast of the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. There are plenty of viewpoints, with views of the sea, the city and the Anaga mountain range. Inside its gardens you will find the best collection of palm trees in Europe, which is considered the largest botanical collection of tropical island palm trees in the world; all of which is surrounded by all types of streams, lakes and waterfalls. With over 2000 species of plants coming from tropical and subtropical climates, the botanical family of palm trees is the most widely represented in the collection, with over 500 species distributed throughout the park, according to their geographical origin. Throughout the whole tour, the visitor will feel transported to exotic places such as the Caribbean, Madagascar, Africa or Australia. For some years now, the Palmetum has also been the best place in the city of Santa Cruz for bird watching. Year after year, the mountain has been colonised by a multitude of species that have found their new home here.
