Description

This house is considered the most important craft centre or “calado” centre (a typical type of embroidery) in the Canary Islands. La Casa de los Balcones (The House of the Balconies) combines architecture, history, traditions, folklore and craft products - a place where you will be able to admire not only its famous lacework, but also its unique museum. In this “casona” (typical Canarian mansion), we can highlight its patio, adorned with its high columns of tea wood, typically Canarian stone pedestals, a large balcony crowning the the two top floors and its exuberant tropical vegetation. The discreet chiaroscuros and a natural freshness welcome the visitor, surrounding them with a relaxing silence, filled with ancient aromas and intense perfumes, always catching a glimpse of the blue Canarian sky in between the leaves of the tall palm trees. The impressive facade of three floors was formerly called "sobrada" and it is crowned with a running balcony on its last floor, carved in Canarian pitch pine, which competes in beauty with the one from the neighbouring house. There you will find nine windows, also made from wood, framed with sgraffito vegetal motifs. The doors of our house are open for you! Come in and discover what domestic life was like for the ancestors of the current owners of the house. An ideal place to disconnect, relax and get to see a wide exhibition of antiques, owned by the family who lived in the house, all of them related to domestic life, Canarian customs and art. "A journey through time".
